I love this show. I really do. But the one this last week for the Drumm family had something wrong with it.
For those who didn’t see it. The Drumm family had one Autistic child, and one with Aspergers. They were so poor that they lived in a house that used to be a dump site, and had to sell their car to buy food. Despite all this, they gave endlessly to the community around them. So, in comes EMHE and with the help of several hundred volunteers and around 4000 on-lookers, they gave them a beautiful and yet affordable home.
Here is the rub for me. This has been going on for YEARS. The “community that loves them so much” stood by and did NOTHING all that time. If each of those “loving community members” would have given $100 to the Drumm family, they would have had $400,000 to get out of the hole they were in. But no… they just kept taking from people who had nothing. EMHE showed up and suddenly all the “love” of the community showed itself. If EMHE wouldn’t have come, that “loving” community would still be sitting on its hands doing nothing for the very needy and deserving Drumm family.
That pisses me off.

ZZ Top, Heart, Genesis and Ozzy Ozbourne
What a great set of rockers to honor this year! I loved the performances by the honorees (goose bumps anyone)… they were all in such top form considering that they aren’t spring chickens anymore.
My Special Moments:
- Nickelback rocked out the opening of the show with Sharp Dressed Man
- Gretchen Wilson and Alice in Chains absolutely kicked it out with Barracuda. I was totally blown away.
- Heart. They sounded like they just stepped out of the 70s.
- Robin Williams “preaching” the “gospel” of Genesis
- Genesis… I don’t exactly know why, but I love pretty much anything that Phil Collins sings.
- Jada Pinkett-Smith… uhmmmm… strike that thought.
- Ozzy the one, the only…. there’s nothing more to say.
It would have been a total kick in the pants to run sound for that show.

Bon Jovi night… this should be interesting - could be very hard for the girls. (as always, my comments are typed out before the judges say their thing)
Phil: Oooooo. He started in the audience, that’s such a unique thing. For me, boooooring. It sounded to me like a 12 year old singing in front of a mirror. I think Simon is the only one who heard what I did.
Jordin: Didn’t get her outfit. It was her weakest performance on the show. I just hope this one song doesn’t put her at risk - considering how good she is, but I’m afraid for her.
LaKisha: A couple rough spots at the start, but a perfect song choice. I saw the return of LaKisha… strong.
Blake: The bravest person in the competition. Took a classic and turned it on its head (a song that I really liked the original of). I think it worked very, very, very well.
Chris: I liked the start… but that was it.
Melinda: Wow!
My rank from top to bottom: Melinda, Blake, LaKisha, Phil, Jordin, Chris
Bonus rank from my lovely wife: Blake, Melinda, LaKisha, Phil, Jordin, Chris
Not sure if I like the “you all were safe last week, but now we have to can two”…
I hope Jordin stays and Phil goes with Chris… and not just because then we’d be down to the final four I predicted way back when.

Chris: Great song. Good performance. Didn’t like the end… not every song has to be about the big ending.
Melinda: She has grown. She is no longer just a great singer. The stage is hers, she owns it. The neat thing is that she did a Faith Hill song, but I heard nothing but Melinda… and she’s learning how to take a compliment.
Blake: Another good song. A very fitting restrained performance. Fit the song very well.
LaKisha: Weak start, but she “worked it out”. “I believe” that Melinda has “finally” passed her.
Phil: I liked the start, but then it just became “Phil” to me. He’s good, but not great.
Jordin: Suprisingly, I thought it was a little pitchy in spots. But I guess the judges didn’t agree with me. It was good, though.
My bottom two……. Chris and Phil.
Maybe it’s just me, but the “Idol Gives Back” came off as a little self indulgent. Of course that could just be Ryan, everything he says comes off as self indulgent.
